This is a truly exceptional holiday cottage, and the opportunity to stay in such a romantic and historic cottage as The Orangery is a rare treat for couples. It has its own very large south facing and private walled garden with expansive lawns and flower beds. The wooded banks are covered with snowdrops in Spring, and lead down to Marske Beck which runs into the River Swale nearby. Fishing permits for the nearby Swale are easily available.

The Orangery is a delight-it is a grade 2 listed building from the late 1700’s, with the original 5 sided orangery being flooded with light from the 3 massive arched windows which open directly onto the patio and the walled garden. This is the living room for the cottage. The original potting sheds, which are tiered down the gentle slope of the garden, form the dining room, kitchen, luxurious bathroom and king sized bedroom with its walk-in dressing room.

The hamlet of Clints is an ancient manor which appears to date back to the late 1100’s and now consists of the original buildings associated with the long demolished Clints Hall, such as the Orangery and The Coach House. The name is derived from the Danish word, Klint, which means a limestone cliff. It is well named as it lies in a beautiful wooded limestone valley carved by the river in the bottom, yet with outstanding views to the moorlands above. It is a stunning area to explore either on foot or by car, and Wainwrights Coast to Coast Walk runs nearby.

The Orangery is about 0.5 miles along an unmetalled, private, country track from the village of Marske, which continues as a footpath beyond Clints, but was originally an ancient route between Richmond and Reeth, and later used to service the leadmining in the area. It is therefore very quiet with virtually no passing traffic, other than walkers. However, despite this beautiful rural setting, Richmond with it’s market and castle is only 6 miles away, Reeth with it’s airy village green is just over 4 miles, and the A1 just under 12 miles away, yet you are still in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and it’s glorious scenery in this magical setting.

The Orangery has been beautifully and artistically decorated and with original artwork throughout this unique holiday cottage-it is a rare treat to be able to stay in a property like this. We are sure that you will find this cottage every bit as special as we do.

ACCOMMODATION
A large quarry tiled entrance hall with an antique mirror and table greet you as you enter The Orangery, with space to sit and remove your walking boots, and plenty of hanging and storage space for outdoor gear. Off to the left of this is the kitchen with its country house kitchen style antique pine dresser. There are a couple of steps up into the dining area with its raised wooden floor, and then a doorway in the corner of the dining room leads through into the magnificent orangery, which is now the living room for this very special cottage. There are 2 comfy sofas, an antique dresser, and a very realistic gas fire. This room is light and airy with its high ceilings and floor to ceiling arched windows and French door leading directly onto the patio and fabulous walled garden. The magnificent drapes for the windows mean that you can still be cosy once they have been drawn.

Retracing your steps back to the entrance, there is a luxurious bathroom with a double ended bath, separate shower, underfloor heating and Travertine marble tiles. There is a large king sized bedroom with a fabulous French antique style king sized bed and furniture, and views from the window into the wood and to the moors beyond. This room also has a walk in dressing room with ample hanging and shelf space.

The Orangery has level parking for 2 cars at the side of the lane, which is behind the cottage, or there is ample room to park on the driveway just outside the front door. There are gardens virtually all of the way round The Orangery, with the main garden being the original walled garden, which is about an acre. There are patio areas, walkways, flower borders and a large lawned area. There is also access through the owners wild flower meadow (guests are respectfully requested not to use the wild flower meadow as the owner regards it as a nature reserve) and into a wooded area leading down to Marske Beck at the bottom of the garden.
